Organist and Senior Choir Director - Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale, PA

The congregation of Calvary Lutheran Church in Laureldale, PA (Berks County) is searching for a talented and dedicated individual to serve as organist and senior choir director.  The interested candidate will have a passion for making meaningful music that glorifies the Lord and for leading/expanding our music ministry.  

Basic duties include preparation for one Sunday worship service each week, which includes leading the congregation through the liturgy, playing hymns, directing and accompanying the senior choir, playing a prelude, offertory, and postlude.  This position also requires the facilitation of weekly senior choir practice where you will help to prepare anthems and encourage musical growth.  Calvary has a rich tradition of music as part of worship and the congregation truly values the efforts that this position will require.

Cantor: The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd (Lancaster, Pennsylvania)
Position Description: The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is committed to living out the unconditional love and radical hospitality of Jesus in our worship, in our service to the world, and in our shared life. We are currently in the Reconciling in Christ (RIC) discernment process with the objective of broadening our welcome to reflect our vision more fully. LCGS is home to Dobson opus 83 (mechanical action, II/24/27), a Steinway Model B, and five octaves of Schulmerich handbells.
The Cantor will serve as organist and director of music, and will be responsible for the following:
•Leading the assembly’s worship of God by organ, piano, and other musical instruments. LCGS has one Sunday liturgy at 10am and seasonal festival services.
•In consultation with the Pastor, plan the assembly’s liturgies, hymns, and worship schedule.
•Work with the vocal choir, handbell choir, soloists, and other musical groups in supporting the assembly’s worship.
•Schedule substitute organists when the Cantor is not available.
•Oversee the copyright requirements for print and livestream materials.
•Engage musicians for festivals and other liturgies as appropriate.
•Provide for the tuning and maintenance of the organ, pianos, and other musical instruments and related budgeting.

In addition, the Cantor shall:
•Have first right of refusal for all weddings and funerals.
•Be permitted to use church organ and piano for private teaching.

Skills and Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in music, church music, or other related degree preferred.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Lutheran theology, liturgical practice, and use of music in worship preferred.
•Demonstrated skill and competency at the keyboard, particularly organ and piano, and a working knowledge of other instruments.
•Experience and competency directing ensembles of all age groups.
•Ability to work well with others and participate collegially with staff members, Pastors, and congregational leaders.

Salary and other benefits commensurate with level of education and experience. The position averages 20 hours per week with an expected salary range of $22,000-$32,000.

Director of Music Ministries - Grace United Methodist Church, Hummelstown is seeking a Director of Music to lead and grow our music ministry in a way that enhances worship and glorifies God.
Position Summary: The Director of Music will provide leadership for the church’s music program, working closely with the pastor, staff, and congregation to plan and offer meaningful, Spirit-filled worship services. This individual will oversee the choral and instrumental music ministries, encourage congregational singing, and nurture a culture where music supports the mission and ministry of Grace UMC to the glory of God.
Responsibilities:

  • Direct the adult choir in regular rehearsals and Sunday worship.

  • Coordinate and encourage participation in additional musical ensembles (children’s choir, handbells, orchestra instrumental groups, etc.).

  • Select appropriate music that complements the liturgical season, scripture, and worship theme.

  • Collaborate with the pastor and worship team in planning services.

  • Recruit, train, and encourage volunteers in the music ministry.

  • Provide leadership for special services (Advent, Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc.).

  • Manage the music budget and care for musical instruments.

  • Supervise all paid and volunteer music staff

Qualifications:

  • Strong proficiency in piano and organ.

  • Experience in directing choirs and leading congregational singing.

  • Knowledge of sacred and liturgical music across traditional and contemporary styles.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • A heart for ministry and a desire to serve God and the church through music.
